Word of Wisdom Family Home Evening

Hello friends!  This week we are taking a break for our Book of Mormon lessons to talk a little bit about the Word of Wisdom.  My 5 year old has been asking a lot of questions about this topic lately, and I think FHE is the perfect place to tackle those questions as a family!

To get started, I made this printable of the beautiful promise we are given in D&C if we will follow the Word of Wisdom.  It was a great reminder to me to read through all that we have been promised if we will take care of these wonderful bodies that we have been given by Heavenly Father.

We spent a few minutes talking about how the revelation came about, and how at that time, people had no idea of the harmful effects of tobacco and other things.  After we read through a few verses we did a fun little activity the kids liked that was great for my 5-year old little guy that has a really hard time sitting still for a WHOLE family home evening lesson ;)

First I made up these signs to tape up on the wall

Then I printed off this list and cut each item out and put them in a little bucket.

Then the kids took turns picking out a paper from the bucket.  When we read it aloud the kids would have to run and tag the sign depending on how often we should have or do that thing...always, sometimes or never!

Such a simple activity, but a fun way for the kids to be involved!  The thing we focused on most with our kids was making the decision NOW to obey the Word of Wisdom.  That way when they are confronted later with those hard choices they will be able to go back to the commitment they had made to themselves years before and stay strong to what they believe.

Thank you so much for stopping by today, I hope you have had a beautiful Sabbath with those that you love!

Baked Apple Chips with Apple Pie Spice {Apple Week}

Today we are sharing a delicious, SIMPLE treat your kids can practically make themselves for apple week...as long as you help out with the oven part ;)

These baked apple chips are delicious, healthy and easy-peasy...the perfect snack for fall!

To get started you really just need these bad boys...

a little sprinkling of this...

and an awesome apple peeler/corer/slicer thing WITH a cute little helper :)

Now if you want your chips a little bit crispier you would want to slice them really thin, we like them a tad on the chewy side and I wanted my kids to be able to help out so we used this awesome contraption my mom got me for Christmas a few years ago...it is one of their favorite things to do!

Once we had our slices ready to go we laid them out on the cookie sheet, let the kids sprinkle them with Apple Pie Spice, and baked for 3 hours at 200 degrees.

I'm happy to say they were gobbled up immediately when the kids got home from school and my house smelled quite divine :) Thanks so much for stopping by today!

Wormy Apple Craft! {Apple Week}

  Hello everyone!  We are finally getting into the swing of things with the kids going back to school, and I am LOVING the structure and schedule that comes with that.  I have been excited to get back to our weekly themes, its a great way to ensure I do a few fun things with the kids during the week, and hopefully they learn a little something too ;)

We love apple week, and today we kicked it off by doing our very own Wormy Apple Craft!

This was a super easy, and super fun craft the kids really enjoyed.  All you need to get started are some foam sheets cut out in the shapes of apples and some red and green sequins!  I also used a pipe cleaner to make the stem and scissors to cut out the wormhole ;)

Once you have your apples ready to go, let your kids go crazy with those glue sticks and sequins!

Once the apples are covered in sequins use a black sharpie to draw a cute little face on your little ones finger...then watch them giggle as they discover their apple has a cute little worm :)

I hope you enjoyed our little Wormy Apple Craft, feel free to check out some of our other favorite apple-themed activities too!

Scripture Reading Chart {Free Printable!}

Hello friends!  Can you believe all this blogging I'm doing?! ;)

Today I wanted to share a really simple printable to help your family get excited about reading the scriptures EVERY single day.  As I've been praying for inspiration on how to have more love and peace in our home, I just keep coming back to the basics...weekly family home evening, family prayer, and family scripture study.

With technology at our fingertips constantly, I have decided there is just NO reason for us to ever miss a day of family scripture study!  No matter where we are, one of us always has our phone and we both have the Gospel Library on them, so we are committing to reading with our kids every, single day.

This printable is as easy as it gets...every circle represents a day, and if you read your scriptures that day you get to put an X on the circle.  If you make it to the heart without missing a day you get something special.  For our kids, its going to be staying up 30 minutes later, getting an ice cream cone or something like that.  Now, what if you miss a day??  Well...you just throw out that printable, print off a new one, and start ALL over again!  Our initial goal is to read our scriptures for 500 days in a row, so I will have to make more printables as we go, but this one has a place for 150 days, which is an awesome start!

Just right click, save and print away!  We put this next to our scriptures so every night we just cross it off as soon as we are finished :)

We have made it a whopping FIVE days without missing, and I am already starting to see little changes in our home.  Kids being a little more kind, me having a little more patience, and just an all-around better spirit...imagine where we will be in 500 days!! :)

Singing Time Review Matching Game

  Today I wanted to share a simple Singing Time I did on Sunday that went over really well with the kids and was a great way to review the songs we are doing for our program.  I wanted to have them sing through all our program songs so I could clearly see what songs were sounding good and which ones needed some more work, so I just made up a matching game with the titles of each of our program songs.

I simply printed out 2 copies of each of these songs and put them up on the chalkboard.  Then the kids would try and find the matches, and when they did we would sing the song...SO easy, right?!  It kept the kids entertained for 30+ minutes and gave me a great overview of where we are at and where we need to be by November! :)

Here are each of the songs we are doing, just right click to save and then print two copies of each.  I made them in a 5x7 so they will probably print out best in that size.

Thanks so much for stopping by today, and please share if any of YOU are primary choristers...what are some fun ways you are reviewing the songs with your kids this year?!

Love {Printable}

  As some of you may know, we built a house recently and finally moved in the beginning of June.  We have LOVED our home, and I have had a lot of fun decorating and designing different parts, room by room.  The littlest things seem to take me the longest though...I have two ladder shelves that have sat in my living room, EMPTY, for almost 3 months now :)

I couldn't take it anymore, and finally threw up some décor on these cute little shelves.  My favorite thing to decorate with are pictures of my family, but since we aren't doing new family pics til next month I figured I could fill some of my frames with some printables.  I particularly loved this one, so I thought I would share!

My big thing right now is trying to promote love and peace in our home...I think we ALL could probably use some more of that ;)  When I was little every time my little brother and I would fight my mom would start singing Love is Spoken Here, a beautiful primary song.  It didn't always stop the fighting, and it inevitably annoyed both of us...but the message did finally sink in.  I want our home to be a place where words are spoken with LOVE, and you can feel that love when you walk into our home.

If any of you have that same desire, feel free to right click on the pictures, save, and then print away!

I made this as a 5x7, so it will probably work best in that size :)

Here are the finished results...not too shabby!!

Now I only have about 1,429 more projects to do before the house is done! ;)

Thanks so much for stopping by, hope you all have a fantastic day!!

Repentance Family Home Evening {Alma the Younger and Sons of Mosiah Repent}

Wow...where did the last 5 months ago?!  Life has just seemed SO busy, but now that 3 of my kids are in school and one is heading to preschool next week, I thought just maybe I could get back into this whole blogging thing ;)  I have missed blogging.  I can't guarantee how regular it will be, or how creative or great the ideas will be, but if you are still around I hope you will find something here of value or that brightens your day!

One TERRIBLE habit we got into over the summer was missing our FHE's.  I have felt inspired lately that my family desperately needs me to step it up, and make family home evening a priority for us once again.  With how often I plead with Heavenly Father to help me create more peace in our home and more love between my children, I figured a good start would be to listen the whisperings of the Spirit.  It has been prompting me to get back to the basics...family scripture study, family prayer and family home evenings!

With that said, we are continuing our lessons from the Book of Mormon, and this lesson is based on Alma the Younger and the Sons of Mosiah Repent.  You know I love a good printable, so I made this one up with a quote from Elder Richard G. Scott.

Once we reviewed the story of Alma the Younger and the Sons of Mosiah we talked about the different steps to repentance.  To help the kids remember them a little bit better and reinforce the ideas I made a simple matching game for them to play.  All you need to do is print this sheet out twice and cardstock and you will be good to go!  You could also just print out one sheet and let your kids take turns putting the different steps in the proper order...I just thought of that while I was typing! ;)

After our game I did a really simple activity that I found on Sugardoodle.  I printed off a picture of Alma that I found HERE.  Then I put the picture in a frame we had lying around and got a few little spray bottles and dry erase markers.

We talked about how sin makes us feel...dirty, messy, and not happy.  As we were talking I let the kids go to town scribbling ALL over the picture of Alma.  Once they were done, we talked about how repentance can make us feel.  If we follow the proper steps we can be made clean again.  While we spoke about that I let the kids take turns spraying the picture with water...

I love object lessons like this because you can see the light go off for your kids...following the steps of repentance CAN make you clean again, just like spraying water on the picture made Alma clean again!

Overall, it was a simple, fun family home evening that the kids seemed to enjoy, and hopefully even learned something from.  I know beyond a doubt that my kids will face some tough things in their lives, as we all do.  As their mother I hope that they will make good choices, but I also know that they will fall short, as I constantly do.  It is SO important that they understand repentance and about the Atonement, so when situations arrive, they will know all is not lost and they will have the strength and fortitude to find their way back.

Thank you SO much for stopping by today.  I have truly missed this little blog of mine and hope to share more with you soon!
