Bed rest = Projects

Hello friends!  How are you all doing this lovely sunny day?!  At least I think its sunny...I haven't actually stepped outside ;)

Here at Blue Skies Ahead we know ALL about bed rest.  Its pretty much been a given since I had my first daughter 8 years ago at 32 weeks.  Ever since I have spent varying amounts of time on bed rest with each pregnancy...and each baby has come later, success!!

Bed rest is tough for me.  As a (usually) busy mom of 4 VERY active kids, I am used to being on the go all the time.  I very often feel defined by everything that I DO in a day.  Well...if you take all that away and DO nothing in a day...who are you and what is your importance to your family??  These are all things I have struggled with in the past, but not so this time!  I don't know if its because this is our last baby and I know I never have to do this again, or if I am finally able to truly appreciate there is NOTHING more important than getting this little babe here safe and sound, but whatever it is I have been able to find some things I can accomplish even while I am down and out that are making the time pass by quickly!

I have been working on getting caught up on my digital scrapbooking and typing up a bunch of my favorite recipes...but today I wanted to share a few simple projects I have been putting together for Cohen's nursery...all while lying on my couch :)

What did we do before PicMonkey??  I love how easy it is now to make your own custom printables to fit in any space and color scheme.  Cohen's nursery has big, bold patterns, airplanes and the colors navy, bright blue and orange.  LOVE!!

I made this 8x10 printable to frame and put on top of his dresser...simple and perfect for an airplane-themed room!

I made this next printable to hang over Cohen's crib.  I LOVE the simplicity of it, I was inspired by THIS great print

Finally, the project I am MOST excited about!!

Its not quite finished, but as soon as my hubs gets home I am putting him to work :)  I love mobiles and think they are a great way to add more fun and personality to your little ones nursery.  As I was searching for something for Cohen's room I could NOT find anything I even remotely liked.  I started to think if there was anything I could make...and it came to me!

Paper Airplanes!!

I found THIS amazing site with TONS of free digital papers.  I just printed out a bunch of different patterns in my colors and folded a million paper airplanes:)  I can't wait to see the finished product!

So those are just a few of the things I have been working on here...but I'd love to hear from you guys! Has anyone else ever been on bed rest or just down for a few days?  If so, how did you stay motivated and what in the world did you do when you finished the ENTIRE series of Downtown Abbey in 3 days?!

Shamrock Chips and Dip!

Happy Monday to everyone!!

We made this fun, healthy snack last week and I thought I would share with you today :)  My kids always seem to get MORE than enough sugar no matter what holiday we are celebrating...so this was my attempt to even out the score a little ;)

These Shamrock Chips and Dip are SO tasty and SO easy!  All you need to make some are a little Pam spray, spinach tortillas, and a shamrock cookie cutter.

Simply spray a cookie sheet lightly with Pam and then cut a bunch of shamrocks out of your tortillas.

Then stick them in the oven at 350 degrees and watch closely!  I mean, seriously...watch close.  These babies will burn quick.  Mine got a little more brown than I wanted, but still tasted delicious!  I happened to have a bunch of avocados on hand and whipped up a quick guacamole using the amazing recipe I found at Our Best Bites.  It is quick and yummy...and I usually have all the ingredients on hand!

Thank you so much for visiting Blue Skies Ahead today!!  I am attempting to come up with ways to still connect with my kids and be creative while on strict bed rest...check back later in the week to see how its going ;)

Linking up at THESE great parties!

Leapfrog MyRobot Friend App {Review}

If you been checking out what we do here at Blue Skies Ahead for any time at all, you know how I feel about FUN, educational activities for my kids!  We are always trying to think up ways to make learning more exciting and keep the kiddies motivated and engaged.

Even with all the creative things we try to do here at home, like almost every other kid I know, my daughter is always begging to play on my iPhone.  When I finally do cave and hand it over, I know that I want her to be playing something that is educational, keeps her interest...and fun too!  I was really excited to introduce her to a new app from Leapfrog, MyRobot Friend.

Here's the beauty of MyRobot Friend...it is helping my little one with her math, AND keeping her excited and motivated at the same time!  I don't know about your kids, but at our house we are big readers.  I love reading to my kids and having them read to me, but it wasn't until the last few months I realized we needed to be putting a little more energy into working on math skills with my littles.

I was anxious to hand the phone over to my girlie and see what she thought of it.  The first thing that impressed me was how user-friendly it is.  Without ANY help from me, she set up her profile and started playing right away.  When I peeked in to check on her I was thrilled with what I saw.  Not only do the first few levels focus on math and counting, but they also deal with directions like North and South.  It was really great practice for a concept my 2nd grader is currently working on becoming more familiar with.

One of the most FUN things about this app is the way you can customize your very own Robot Friend :)  My kids love when you can pick out the outfit and add accessories.  It's also very motivating, because the more levels pass the more coins you receive to go towards buying more things for your robot.  It's a great way to teach your kids about saving, money and priorities.

Overall, I have been really thrilled with the Leapfrog MyRobot Friend app.  I figured the true test would be once the newness wore off...would she still want to play a math game?!  Happily, it has been over 2 weeks since we got MyRobot Friend and it still the first things she asks to play.

So now you know what I think...why don't you check it out yourself?!

Check out the Leapfrog MyRobot Friend download page HERE, and let me know how you like it!

I was selected for this opportunity by Clever Girls Collective but content and opinions expressed here are all my own. To learn more about the app, visit here #CleverRobotFriend #spon

Pot of Gold Homemade Lipgloss

Hello, hello!!

It is so wonderful to be posting from the comfort of my living room couch and NOT a hospital bed! :) Its lovely to be back in my loud, crazy, messy house...and STILL be pregnant.  I am confident we can go at least a few more weeks before meeting our little man.

Last week I had a fun idea for a little gift my girls would LOVE for St. Patrick's Day.  Every year we do a clover hunt where they find chocolate gold coins at the end.  I wanted to come up with something besides candy I could give them when I remembered THIS awesome idea from Meet the Dubiens.  I have been meaning to make some Homemade Lipgloss with my girls for a while now...then I realized this could be the perfect little favor for March 17th!

Pot of Gold Homemade Lipgloss!

This lipgloss is SO easy to make!  All you need is 1 tub of petroleum jelly and 2 packets of Lemonade Kool-Aid.  Seriously...that's it!!  All you do is put the jelly in a microwaveable bowl and microwave in 30-second increments, stirring between each time.  It took me a good 6-7 minutes until the jelly was liquid.  Then I just added 2 packets of Lemonade Kool-Aid to get that pretty golden color and yummy smell.

I poured the lipgloss into these cute little containers I found at Hobby Lobby and let them set up over a few hours.

I think my girls are going to LOVE finding these little treasures at the end of our clover hunt!

Thank you so much for stopping by today and checking out what's going on here at Blue Skies Ahead!
